Capturing Web Images on Your Home Computer

The web holds an enormous number of images, and most of them can be downloaded to your home computer for later use or viewing. Here is where the file goes and how to find it again.

Save an image from the page

1. Open your browser and go to the website that contains the image. Move the cursor over the image and use the right mouse button to open the context menu. Choose the option that says Save Image or Save Image As.
2. A new window will ask where you want to save the file. Choose the Pictures folder on your computer. It is usually near the Documents or Videos folder. If you cannot find it, save the image to the desktop instead.
3. Open the file on your computer to confirm that it downloaded to the right place.

Find it again

If you have trouble locating a file you just downloaded, use your computer's search function. Enter the file name in the search box and run the search. The file should appear with its full path.

It also helps to rename the file as soon as you save it. A short name that describes the image is easier to find than a string of numbers, and it makes a personal collection much easier to browse later.
